New Series: "My Side of the Bed ... By Virginia Blue"

Ever wondered how interior designers decorate their bedroom?
Well here is the first in my new series "My Side of The Bed" ...

Virginia Blue is an interior designer based in Melbourne, Australia and along with her design company Blue Fruit, is the author of the very stylish blog Glamour Drops.

Virginia has graciously allowed us into her beautiful bedroom to show us her side of the bed.
Read below a description of her favourite things that she likes to display ...

Here is what my side of the bed looked like this morning - on one of those crazy overcast now/sunny now kind of typical days for us in autumn!

A few comments about the items...

The little silver vase has a bit of a story attached. My cat refuses to drink water out of a cat bowl. It has to be vases, with flowers in them, which he carefully removes with his paw in order to drink his fill. His preference is for rose flavoured water, and as the garden is positively filled with David Austen and Delbard roses (my passion) this generally isn't a problem as they flower all year round here. However, he drives me nuts with pulling the flowers out. So when I found this little Victorian silver vase with a wire frog I figured it may stop him pulling them out. And it does! Hurrah!

The roses in it are David Austen ones, and a beautiful rose hip which I often add to flower arrangements.

The tiny tin belonged to my grandmother, who was a tobacconist in Glasgow in the early 20th century. It was either used for snuff or tobacco - I can't remember which. It dates from around 1900.

The violet patterned dish was just picked up an op shop locally, and it is used to hold my earings when I forget to take them out earlier in the evening. In it are a very coveted pair of Tiffany earrings, which I received last month for my birthday from my husband, after dropping large hints for about 3 years!

The bedside table is one of a pair of 1960s brass beauties - found from one of my antique suppliers. I love that there is a magazine/ book shelf underneath it, as I always have a stack of architecture magazines & a book on the go. Currently, the book is Palladio, which you can just see.

And the bedhead is also brass - can you tell I love brass? I collect paintings of yellow flowers, who knows why, and this one over the bed came from the fabulous Camberwell Markets, which are a bit legendary here in Melbourne. It is a watercolour of yellow eucalyptus blossom - my favourite flower.

So while the bedroom changes every 5 minutes, like the rest of my house, on my bedside table there are always fresh flowers, a book & my grandmother's tin

I hope you enjoyed this 'peek' into Virginia's bedroom.
I love all the personal items that Virginia has displayed on her bedside table and the wonderful stories behind each item! Thank you so much Virginia for sharing your side of the bed with us... your roses are stunning!
